Xi Jinping Sends Message of Condolences to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the Passing of Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari

On July 16, 2025, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the passing of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. Xi Jinping expressed deep condolences on behalf of the Chinese government and people, and extended sincere sympathies to the family of Muhammadu Buhari, and the Nigerian government and people.

Xi Jinping noted that former President Muhammadu Buhari was an important leader of Nigeria who dedicated himself to exploring a development path suited to Nigeria's national conditions and made outstanding contributions to national unity and progress, enjoying high prestige in the international community. Muhammadu Buhari upheld friendship with China during his lifetime and actively promoted the Nigeria-China friendship as well as China-Africa friendship and cooperation. His passing means a tremendous loss to the Nigerian people and the loss of a good friend to the Chinese people. China highly values the development of its relations with Nigeria and is ready to work with the Nigerian side to continuously advance the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
