The Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Auckland Hosts 2025 Spring Festival Reception

On January 21, the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Auckland held the 2025 Spring Festival Reception. Consul General Chen Shijie and Member of Parliament Lawrence Xu-Nan attended the reception and delivered remarks. Members of Parliament Carlos Cheung and Nancy Lu sent video messages. Around 170 guests, including representatives of the local Chinese community, Chinese businesses and institutions, international students, and local media, gathered to celebrate the Year of the Snake.

In his remarks, Consul General Chen said that the Spring Festival is one of the most important traditional festivals in Chinese culture, which was recently inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The culture of the Spring Festival is increasingly reaching the global stage, demonstrating unparalleled cultural influence and emotional cohesion. Chen also shared insights on the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, highlighted China's achievements in 2024, and outlined the fruitful results of the cooperation between China and New Zealand in various fields. Chen emphasized that both China and New Zealand adhere to mutual respect in politics, mutual benefit in economics, and mutual learning in cultural exchange, jointly promoting the healthy and stable development of bilateral relations to benefit the peoples of both countries. The Consulate-General is committed to working with the overseas Chinese community to contribute wisdom, positive energy to a new chapter of the bilateral relations.

Members of Parliament Lawrence Xu-Nan, Carlos Cheung and Nancy Lu extended their New Year greetings to the attendees in their remarks, commending the contributions of the Chinese community to New Zealand's development and the collaboration between the two countries. They expressed hope for enhanced mutual cooperation and a brighter future for China-New Zealand relations.

Consul General Chen distributed Spring Festival Kits to representatives of senior overseas Chinese. Local cultural groups delivered captivating performances that were met with enthusiastic applause. The Consulate staff presented choral performances of a Māori song Te Aroha and a Chinese song Love My China, bringing the event to the climax. The event was filled with warmth and joy, with overseas Chinese expressing gratitude for the care and support from motherland and willingness to make contributions to the development of bilateral relations.
