The 2025 Chinese New Year Carnival was held at Takapuna Beach on February 2. Vice Consul General Liu Pengxiang, Minister for Climate Change Hon. Simon Watts, Leader of the Labor Party Rt. Hon. Chris Hipkins, members of Parliament Carlos Cheung, Nancy Lu, Dan Bidois, Cameron Brewer, Hon. Phil Twyford, Hon. Debrah Russell, Shannon Halbert and several hundred representatives from all walks of life attended the event.

In his remarks, Vice Consul General Liu extended New Year greetings and best wishes to the audience, noted that with Spring Festival inscribed on UNESCO ICH list, traditional Chinese culture has gone increasingly global and well promoted cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and the rest of world, including New Zealand. "Happy Chinese New Year" has become an essential part of NZ multicultural mosaic and an important window for Kiwis to understand China. Liu reviewed the achievements of bilateral relations in 2024 and looked forward to promoting exchanges and cooperation in various fields in the coming new year. NZ guests thanked the Chinese community for the contribution to the local economic, social and multicultural development and wished the Chinese community greater success in the Year of the Snake. Guests and audience watched cultural performances, enjoyed the colorful intangible cultural heritage roadshow, tasted various kinds of Chinese food and immersed themselves in the Spring Festival culture.
