On 4 November, Consul General Chen Shijie attended the award ceremony of the "Modern China Through My Eyes" Short Video Competition. About 100 principals, students and parents from relevant schools attended the event.
In his remarks, Consul General Chen extended warm congratulations to the winners and encouraged the students to stay true to their original aspirations, continue to learn Chinese well and understand China, and inject new vitality into China-New Zealand people-to-people and cultural exchanges. He noted that the Consulate-General is ready to take the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year as an important opportunity to work with all sectors in the consular district to jointly advance the cause of China-New Zealand friendship.
The competition was hosted by the Chinese Consulate-General in Auckland and organized by the Confucius Institute in Auckland, the CLEC Programme team at the University of Auckland, and the New Zealand Chinese Language Teachers' Association. A total of 129 university, secondary and primary school students from 24 schools in the consular district participated, and 11 works won awards. At the award ceremony, the winning students presented talent performances including face-changing, Chinese dance and Chinese singing.
